The full story

01 · Brief

The brief

Maison Verre had one night to introduce a flagship to a city that didn’t know it yet.

The brand had built its name online and through a handful of stockists, but never held a physical address. A single launch evening was booked to change that: press, a handful of buyers, the usual glass of something cold. The risk was obvious: one night, however well run, tells a street nothing about a shop it will need to walk past for years.

02 · Idea

The idea

Turn the opening night into the first night of a three-day residency.

Rather than one event and a ribbon, we proposed a residency: the launch evening for press and stockists, followed by two days when the store opened its back room to the neighbourhood: styling sessions, a small maker’s market, and an evening workshop run by the design team itself. The opening stopped being a single performance and became an introduction people could keep showing up to.

03 · Execution

Execution

One flagship, three distinct nights, no repeats.

Night one stayed close to a conventional launch: press, photography, a guided walk through the collection. Night two handed the floor to local stylists and a queue of neighbourhood regulars for one-on-one sessions. Night three was the workshop: twenty seats, hosted by the in-house design team, with the shop floor rearranged around a single long table. Staffing, guest lists and the room itself were rebuilt each evening rather than repeated.

04 · Outcome

Outcome

The flagship opened with a neighbourhood already inside it.

Press coverage came from night one, but the waiting list came from nights two and three: regulars who’d been in the building before it was officially “open.” Two stockists extended their orders after seeing the residency in person. The three-night format has since become the studio’s standard opening for any flagship with a physical address to defend.
